Ode to Adolfo

Son, I named the dog that you rescued from the snow in December and I wrote him a story because he mattered!

A story of another precious dog saved by the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who drive through the reserve areas rescuing abandoned animals. And even though this very special dog died through the night his last hours on his earthly journey were special thanks to a young man….my brave warrior who’s heart has been broken due to the cruelty of fellow humans….my son…who saw eyes searching from its blanket of snow, begging not to be left to die on the side of the cold winter road.

“Adolfo (Noble Wolf)”

“A spirit covers me with her wings. I am cold and can no longer feel my limbs.
She is a spirit of the wolf that traveled the earth many years ago looking out for the forest. She is my ancestor.
She whispers to me to hold on for a great warrior will rescue me. The pain is gone and all I can hear is the beat of my own heart. It gets weaker………
It has started to snow again….it’s been days I have lain here… the spirit urges me to keep my head above the drift.
There is a light……but it is only a truck….so many have passed me by…I must be invisible.
The light gets brighter…..I can feel a warmth…..a warmth so strong……so brave……so loving and kind.
Where have you been? My whole life I have waited… life as a young pup so carefree, yet so empty, because you were not there. My life as a forest warrior…so difficult to survive!
You must be the great warrior…..arms so warm…..so caring, eyes so painful….and so hopeful….your heart so strong.
It’s not too late. The spirit was right….

I am safe. There is so much love…..a life time of love…has it only been a few hours?
The young man takes over the whispering from the wolf spirit. You are safe…you are safe…. And I am safe!”
