Breed: Pug
Age: Young Adult
Size: Small

Henry is a delightful little man. He has a wonderful personality and gets along great with other dogs, cats, and kids of all ages. He walks well on a leash, loves car rides, and loves – LOVES – to play fetch. He’s very tolerant of being handled for things like baths, tooth brushing, and nail trims. He is crate trained, but at night he definitely prefers a nice warm snuggle under the blankets with his human. Henry is doing very well with his toilet training, and just needs to learn how to ask to be let out. For now it will be a simple case of his adopters learning his timing and establishing a routine because as long as he’s given the opportunity, he’ll go potty outside every time. He is a quiet boy for the most part, but will bark to let you know if someone’s walking by, or sometimes at the cats to try to get them to play with him. Half an hour later you’ll find him all tuckered out, curled up in front of the fire with a cat sleeping on top of him, and we think that just about makes Henry’s day. He’ll share his space with just about anyone and anything and the more cuddling the better. Henry would probably do best in a home with another buddy so he doesn’t get bored, as he absolutely loves the company of other animals and is very bonded to the ones in his foster home. He’s a happy, handsome, smart little boy with character and personality plus, and deserves a loving furever home to call his own – could that be yours? He promises lots of tiny little kisses in return!

Henry has been recovering from demodectic mange, which is a non-contagious skin condition. His treatment is almost completed, however his adopters need to be prepared to continue with his inexpensive daily medication and weekly special baths if necessary. If you would like to take Henry home, please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process to learn about our adoption process & fees or to fill out an online application.

Breed: Corgi X Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Size: Small

Jenny is a 3 year old chihuahua mix who looks like a tiny black and white corgi. This poor girl has been through a lifetime of heartache in her short years. She has previously had 3 homes before coming to us, which makes no sense at all because she is the sweetest, calmest, most loving little girl. We believe that Jenny has been abused in the past and she can be quite scared when meeting new people. She came from a home that was a chaotic mess – with 4 young adults and 5 grandchildren all living in the grandmother’s house. They had only had Jenny for a few months. Before that, she was living outside, chained to a kennel. We can only imagine her previous history.

She gets along quite well with other dogs – including one who is quite aggressive toward other dogs in general. Every now and then Jenny will bark at a passerby out the window, but one “no”, and she quiets down. She is fully house trained, walks well on a harness and prefers to cuddles under the covers with you in bed. She seems to enjoy going for car rides and prefers to follow you around and accompany you everywhere you go.

Jenny needs a calm, quiet home – preferably one with another canine or feline friend and someone who is around most of the time. If you would like to adopt Jenny, please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process to learn about our adoption process & fees or to fill out an online application.

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Age: Adult
Size: Small

Gilbert is a tiny package with a huge heart! This adorable little man is thought to be about 3.5 years old and weighs only 5.8 lbs. He was found as a stray on the streets of Calgary with an injured hip. He has since undergone hip surgery and does require future vet check-ups as well as some physiotherapy for his leg. His hip is healed now, but Gilbert does need some encouragement to start using his formerly bad leg. He had adjusted so well to getting around on 3 legs that he apparently sees no sense in going back to using all 4!

Gilbert needs a home with no young children, although he will tolerate them for short visits. He can get a little hard headed around cats – he does not try to hurt them, but will not leave them alone, especially if they are submissive. His adopter needs to understand that even though he is small, he wants to be treated like a big dog. Gilbert does not need to be carried around like a fashion accessory – he likes to travel around under his own steam. He likes to go for long walks at the dog park to meet new doggie friends. Given the time to get to know someone, he is very loyal & affectionate and will follow you everywhere. He can adapt to just about any situation and is easily trained with his people pleasing ways, provided he is treated with respect & patience.

If you think you are the right fit for Gilbert, please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process to learn about our adoption process & fees, or to fill out an adoption application.

Breed: Chihuahua
Size: Small
Age: Adult

Sugar Rae is a little ray of sunshine! Although timid of new people, he will quickly make new friends. He likes nothing better than curling up on your lap and quickly becomes your devoted, loyal companion. He is always the first one to greet you at the door when you come home. For fun, he enjoys chasing his little green ball and playing with his toy monkey. Sugar Rae is currently living with three other dogs as well as three cats and gets wonderfully with the whole gang! He has made wonderful progress with his housetraining in a very short time period but seems to have a real fear of car rides. Rae is not the biggest fan of the cold & snow – even when he’s wearing his smart new jacket, but once you coax him outside and ask him to go potty, he will do so.

Rae is pretty insecure & unsure of himself, so his adopter will need to willing to take the time to socialize him & train him. Sometimes with scared dogs like this, people have the tendency to want to carry them everywhere and shut them away from the world to protect them from their fears. But in most cases, this is the worst thing anyone can do, as it makes the dog even more insecure. Because Rae is a timid little guy who is frightened by unexpected noise and sudden movements, we feel that he is not a good candidate for a busy home or one with kids.

If you would like to commit to this adorable little guy, please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process to learn about our adoption process & fees or to fill out an online application form.

Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: Senior
Size: Small

Sammy is approximately 9 years old, but still thinks he’s a puppy. He is such a silly boy, always keeping his foster mom entertained. Sammy loves the company of other dogs, always trying to entice them to play, so a playful buddy would benefit Sammy. Sammy lives in his foster home with 3 cats, all of which he wants to play with. The cats aren’t so sure about him yet, as they haven’t been around a dog before, but Sammy sees them only as more 4 legged playmates. Sammy is a very smart boy, quickly learning his manners, and the do’s and don’ts of the house hold. Sammy would do well as an only dog if his forever home has plenty of time to spend with him.

Although we aren’t really sure when Sammy’s birthday is, he now celebrates the start of his new life every January 18th. Sammy was rescued from death row at a high kill shelter. It appears Sammy wasn’t properly taken care of prior to being surrendered, as he was in need of a vet visit and medical attention. Sammy is feeling much better, and loving every minute of his new life. Sammy loves to play, but mostly loves to cuddle. If Sammy wasn’t so over weight, we’re sure he would love to be a lap dog too! He’s currently working on the new life weight loss challenge, but he has a long way to go. So far Sammy has lost almost 5 pounds, but still has about 10 more to go, which is a lot for a Cocker Spaniel, but with a portion controlled diet, plenty of play time, and walks (which he’s starting to love), we’re getting there.

Sammy has been diagnosed with a heart murmur, which to see him, you would never know. He doesn’t require any special treatment or medication for it, just something your vet would need to keep an eye on. Sammy’s potty training is coming along, but he still thinks that someone should go out with him. He does very well in his crate. Sometimes he even goes into it for a nap, all on his own. Sammy does get anxious when he’s left alone, and he wants to go with you. He is learning to be patient, and to wait, but with everything else on his “to learn” list; this one seems to be coming slower than the rest. Sammy is still in the process of learning what it’s okay to chew on and what is not okay to chew on, so plenty of chew toys and guidance would be of benefit to Sammy. He does have a habit of play biting when he’s playing, which is a hard habit to discourage, so little fingers may find him a bit too rough. Currently Sammy does require a lot of attention as he doesn’t want to do things on his own (i.e.: going outside to use the bathroom) and is always by your side. He is curious about everything, and hasn’t learned that some things can be harmful to him (opening the stove to check on dinner, he wants to check too), so his forever home needs to be careful and keep an eye on what he’s doing. He hasn’t figured out how to ask to go outside, so he needs to be taken outside every couple hours to ensure there are no accidents in the house.

If you are the forever home Sammy has waited so long for, please submit an application, and come meet Sammy today! Please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process.

Breed: German Shepherd X
Age: Puppy
Size: Large (when full grown)

Hello – My name is Ryder and I am a 5 month old, busy, smart, affectionate and wonderful puppy. I am house trained, I love my crate and have a great start on leash training and I come with lifetime of free training support in both classes and private training. My foster mommy is a dog trainer and says that I love to learn and am so quick to pick up new skills. I already know – SIT, DOWN, WAIT, STAY, WATCH ME, TOUCH, DROP IT, LEAVE IT, 3 SEPARATE RECALLS (whistle, name and Emergency Recall) AND I LOVE TO FETCH. I’D SAY THAT FETCH IS MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE AND I’M VERY, VERY GOOD AT IT.

I LOVE OTHER DOGS AND A STRANGER IS JUST A FRIEND I’VE YET TO MEET. I would do best in a home with another young dog to play with and an active family who is looking for a furry family member to join them in everything possible. I love, love, love to cuddle. I travel very well in the car in my seatbelt and have never destroyed anything. I really am a spectacular young pup, just ask my foster mommy.

If you would like take Ryder home, please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process to learn about our adoption process & fees, or to fill out an online application.

This beautiful little girl is Blossom. She was found as a stray in a rural area when she was barely old enough to be away from her mom. She was whisked away to the warm, loving arms of a foster family where she happily resides while waiting for her forever home. She gets along well with the several other dogs of various sizes & ages and she has become close buddies with the little boy in her foster home too! Blossom is a very smart puppy who would do well in just about home, provided that they have the time & attention to devote to raising a puppy.

Toto is a medium sized (about 40 lbs), male Terrier cross who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in a rural town. There, the clock was counting down toward the end of his life and we had to go on an urgent rescue mission to save him in time. Toto is incredibly sweet & gentle. He loves to follow everyone around, wagging his tail and relishing every moment of attention he can get. He gets along well with the other dog in his foster home, but has not been introduced to any cats yet. He gets excited to meet every person who comes to the door, passes him on the street, or so much as glances in his direction! He loves getting hugs & cuddles and would fit in wonderfully to just about home who can give him the love he deserves.

The only word we can use to describe Rufus is SWEET. Poor Rufus was obviously some family’s pet, yet he somehow had ended up on “death row” at a shelter in Edmonton. They didn’t feel that he was a good adoption candidate because he was “too old”, so Rufus was sentenced to die. Luckily we heard his story in time and offered to take him. Rufus has perhaps been one of the most well-behaved, easy going dogs we’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He’s completely house trained, very calm & quiet and great with kids. He is very respectful to other dogs, knows to take treats from your fingers gently, walks nicely on leash and is quite the social butterfly at the dog parks. He loves his people dearly and follows them around the house constantly, always lying on their feet when they sit down to rest.

Of course, Rufus is a bit of a mature gentlemen, estimated to be around 8-9 years old. He does have some arthritis which means that heavy exercise or taking a lot of stairs isn’t the easiest for him and he is sometimes stiff when he first wakes up. Rufus came to us a bit on the portly side, so he has been having lots of gentle exercise to try to slim down. His hind quarters are underdeveloped & weak, but we are hoping with regular exercise, he will start to build up more muscle tone. But he has so, so much life left in him and a ton of living to do! Rufus would do wonderfully in just about home.

If you can give this wonderful boy the loving home he deserves for the rest of his life, please visit http://www.poundrescue.com/adoptions/adoption-process to learn about our adoption process & fees, or to fill out an online application.
