This is Maiya - I adopted her from you in July. She is the most loveable dog and is a welcome addition to my house. I have a rat terrier (George) and the two of them already play and sleep together. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to have her - and for all the great work you do. She is very loved and has definately found her forever home!

This beautiful cat was named after

Gabriele Barrie, founder of Pound Rescue

Gabby is a very sweet and loving girl and we have had almost 6 years of joy with her.  We thank you, Gabby, very much for all your efforts and your hard work.  Without your organization, there would be many more sad stories, instead of the happy and good ones.  Your devotion to the animals is amazing and, if they could speak, they would thank you - big time!!

Best Wishes,

This is J.D. (nee Murray Bear). We neutered this fellow in September, 2007 at our Spay/Neuter clinic for a First Nations family on the Blood reserve. When we went back in October, and the family informed us that their dog was hit by a car and could not walk. We had them surrender him to us and brought him to Calgary for medical attention. He had a broken pelvis and needed to rest in order for it to heal. He was adopted by a marvelous family and now getting the love all dogs should have. What a magnificent proud dog he is!

Another dog from our September Spay Neuter clinic. She was found underneath a porch trying to care for her 5 puppies. Unfortunately, only one pup was alive when we pulled them out. This dog was skin and bones and had sarcoptic mange.

. Both mom and pup were surrendered and brought back to Calgary. ARF cared for the wee pup as mama was too sick to look after her. Mama was adopted by her foster guardian and named Shady Lady.

This bird Peaches was rescued from the most terrible situation. Here is the volunteer's story.

"When I arrived at the house to pick up the bird, the "owners" were sitting on the couch smoking away not even acknowledging that I was in their home. They pointed to the far corner of the room, in which I noticed a poor innocent bird. He was standing on a perch without food or water. I asked if they had food but they ran out. Peaches is brown from the cigarette smoke and has breathing problems. She spent the first night at the vet where she had a tube inserted into her stomach to supply her with food and water because she is so underweight. Her toe nails were also trimmed as her toes are deformed from such long over growth."

Peaches went into our foster program for several weeks and was then transported to the World Parrot Refuge on Vancouver Island.

These two domestic rabbits were roaming the neighborhood of Hidden Valley in Calgary. They were captured by Pound Rescue volunteers and fixed. They were then moved to R.A.S.T.A. and are living in a free range and safe environment.

Edith(adopted 7 years ago) is the best cat we've ever had.  She is so incredibly sweet - she talks to us in short squeaks in the mornings and at night when she is curled up on my lap.  She reaches out her paw and touches my mouth and gives me a loving look.  She has slept on my hip every night since we adopted her.   Her hobbies include chasing string, sun bathing and sitting in the kitchen sink waiting for water or food.  She loves to be picked up and cuddled and greets everyone who comes to our door.  My youngest daughter has even trained her to do a little rub/hop/meow trick.
Thank you, Pound Rescue, for our beloved Edith.

This is "'Guinness" our elderly pug that we brought home In August 2006.

Not only is he in great health (other than mild arthritis in his back legs) I swear that some days he is getting younger!  He is a great companion to Cheetos, our 4 year old pug and to our 2 year old son.

We encourage more people to open their homes and hearts to a homeless animal.  I am so glad that we did- we love Guinness so much.

'He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.  You are his life, his love, his leader.  He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.  You owe it to him to be worth of such devotion.'

Pepper adopted our family in June 2007. The difference she has made in our household is incredible. She came for a "meeting" that progressed to a "sleep-over" and decided that we were acceptable and this was now her home. The corner of our couch (that allows you to see out the front window) is now hers and if we are good she lets us sit there. The summer with her was a matter of her training us to go for walks in different areas of our neighborhood. We have met more people since she came into our lives than we have ever seen after living 12 years in this house and 26 years in our community. Garey, Rene, Chris and I are still trying to figure out how we ever did without her. Our two twenty-something sons agree. She is the greatest company, and loves to snuggle in the crook of your knee, or on your lap (including when you are trying to read the paper).

Lilu was found along with 8 other dogs, all of which were abandoned behind is a dirty barn. They were left without food, water or clean bedding. Lilu has to have eye surgery to remove horribly infection cherry eye.

Spinner came form the same disgusting place that Lilu did. Spinner was almost left behind because he laid far in the back corner of the shed where there was no light. When we picked him up he was trembling with fear. He immediately went to the vet where he underwent surgery to remove one of his eyes as it was so severely infected

Wiley moved into the house like he owns the place, as you can see in the attached photo. He has adapted to living in a house really well, considering a few months ago he was out in the cold and starving to death. He’s doing well, getting stronger and putting on weight.

Ginger, our other dog, likes to play with him but puts him in his place when she’s had enough. Wiley adores Ginger and follows her pretty much everywhere. They’re best buddies now and whenever we’ve had to separate them, they mope until reunited.

Thanks so much for rescuing him. We love the little guy and we’re so glad that you folks are helping dogs in need. You’re a hero!

We were lucky to spot this discarded angel in a pile of garbage.

Adopted by a wonderful family and named Sawyer. He loves his mate and enjoys his walks at Southland park.

Tigger the cat was missing since the middle of October 2007, from the North Haven community in Calgary. Read about how Pound Rescue found him and reunited him with his guardian.
